The Sound Den at The Miami Style had a rare opportunity to get to know performer OhGinelle.

When did you first start singing?
OhGinelle: I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. But I started singing in front of people around the age of 13.

What did your family do to encourage you?
OhGinelle: I’ve always had a knack for music, so at the age of 7, my parents enrolled me into a music school. There I learned to play piano and got introduced to many different genres of music. Also I was introduced to singing and acting.

Who else in your family sings?
OhGinelle: It seems that I have gotten my musical abilities from my mother’s side of the family. I’ve got a few all around musicians in my family as well.

Where would you most like to perform?
OhGinelle: Everywhere! Music is the universal language and I love to speak it, but I have reccurring dreams of performing at the Grammys!  

Do you play any instruments?
OhGinelle: I play the piano and the keytar. I would love to take up the drums one day as well!

What hidden talents do you have?
OhGinelle: I can eat large amounts of ice cream at a time and still stay slim!

What do you think about when your preforming?
OhGinelle: I think about that moment I experienced and emotions I went through when I wrote the song.

Who are your musical inspirations?
OhGinelle: I am a big fan of Diana Ross, Sade, Vanity of the group Vanity Six and Brandy.

What kind of music do you listen to today?
OhGinelle: I listen to everything from classical to Soca music. Pretty much anything that moves me.

What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?
OhGinelle: I’ve got 3 spice girl albums, and I’m not sure how the lamb chop sing along song ended up on there! "Wink Wink" LOL. Back

 

It’s all about getting people to feel you through music. But, sometimes, it’s all about just having fun!

Which Performing artist do you admire the most?
OhGinelle: I am a big fan of Beyonce. I admire where she has come from and her agility.
